What started as a heartfelt idea from a local Fair Board member has officially become a community reality. We are thrilled to announce the launch of the Golden Ticket Fund, a new partnership designed to ensure every child can experience the magic of the Central Kansas Free Fair (CKFF).
A Dream for the Community
The initiative was sparked by Michelle Holt, a lifelong Abilene resident and Fair Board member. Inspired by her own grandchildren’s joy at the fair—and mindful of the rising costs of carnival wristbands—Holt approached the Community Foundation of Dickinson County with a mission: to remove financial barriers for local families.
“I want more children to share in that joy and help ensure the fair continues to thrive,” Holt shared.
Turning Vision into Reality
The Community Foundation connected with the Jeffcoat Foundation, which generously committed an initial $10,000 gift to establish the fund. This partnership between the Fair Board, the Jeffcoat Foundation, and the Community Foundation ensures that the "Golden Ticket" dream is ready for this year's fair.
How the Program Works
Golden Tickets will be distributed to qualifying families (based on free and reduced lunch eligibility) at the following event:

Event: Kids in Crisis Back-to-School Backpack Fair

Date: Saturday, July 25

Time: 10 a.m. – 12 p.m.

Details: Eligible families can visit the CKFF booth to receive a carnival wristband for one night of rides.
Looking Toward the Future
While the fund currently supports Abilene children, the long-term goal is to grow the Golden Ticket Fund into a permanent endowment that serves children across all of Dickinson County for generations to come.
