At Holm Automotive Center in Abilene we are always anxious to
hear what others have to say about our products and services. When the Abilene
Kiwanis Club was asked if they wanted to take a brand new Buick Lacrosse to
Manhattan for an inter-club meeting they were a little worried, "Does Tim know
we are doing this?" Well actually, Tim is probably finding out about it right
now, but we are sure that he will be happy with the idea!
Joe Nold was brave enough to volunteer as the driver and with
a brief overview was able to familiarize himself with the new technology. Art
Nease rode shotgun. Since it was another hot day, they really enjoyed the cooled
front seats. Duane Cooper and Gale Whitehair were able to enjoy plenty of
legroom in the back and didn't have to raise their voices to carry a
conversation even with the XM radio tuned to their favorite classics. The
members gave positive feedback. Here is what they had to say.
- The backseat was extremely comfortable! - Gale
- Great Ride! Enjoyed the trip. - Art
- Liked the styling! The tires were a touch noisy in the back but
other than that it was very quiet!" - Duane
Kiwanis is an international organization with over 600,000
members in 15,000 clubs stretched over 90 nations. 'The principle core of the
Kiwanis mission is the belief that the most effective way to enhance a community
is to enhance its children. When you give a child a chance to learn, experience,
dream, and succeed, great things will happen.'
The Abilene club stays true to the Kiwanis mission. With
nearly 40 active members, they meet every Monday morning at The Hitching Post
restaurant in Old Abilene Town. Being a member is about a lot more than the
fellowship. With funds raised by their famous pancake feed and other donations,
the Abilene's club sponsors many community projects including the following:
- "The Place" (Youth Center)
- Food for Kids
- Kids in Crisis
- Scholarships
- Big Brothers/Big Sisters
- Food Bank
- Boy Scouts
- Back to School Fair
- Young Children Priority One, Library Books
- Highway Pickup
