OnStar is an innovative system integrated into select vehicles that includes a variety of different safety plans, including: Emergency (i.e., Automatic Crash Response), Security (i.e., stolen vehicle assistance, and roadside assistance), and Connections (i.e., hands-free calling, and navigation diagnostics). Last summer, General Motors introduced a mobile app for owners of 2011-model year GM vehicles (i.e. the 2011 Buick Lacrosse) who also subscribed to their OnStar program, allowing easy access to vehicle features from afar.

Happily, the American automaker is giving 14 2010 vehicles the same OnStar app capabilities, including the 2010 Buick Enclave and 2010 Buick Lucerne. So now, owners of 2010 and 2011 models who subscribe to OnStar can use the app to remotely start, lock, and unlock their vehicle. They can also use it to control the climate, offering the luxury of stepping into a warmed car in the winter and a cool car in the summer.

Ever forgotten where you parked? GM OnStar app users never have to worry about experiencing that embarrassing situation again. They can use the app to activate their car alarm system, allowing them to quickly find their vehicle even in the most crowded of parking lots. And, unlike traditional key fobs, it works from any distance!

GM's OnStar app serves as an extension to OnStar's Safe and Sound and Directions and Connections services. 2010 and 2011 Buick owners will need to subscribe to one of these programs in order to use the app. To date, over 56,000 drivers have activated the new app and use it on a regular basis.
